Chile inaugurated this Tuesday the first “5G zone” in Latin America, an area of 5.5 square kilometers in Santiago with hospitals, schools, shops, offices and homes, and where it is experimentally sought to show the impact that the new network will have on cities.

Chile last year tendered the installation of networks 5G with 700 MHz, AWS and 3.5 GHz bands, but the companies Borealnet, Claro, Entel, Movistar and Wom tied in the bids they made for the Public Tenders and “their award will be defined under the economic auction model in a sealed envelope”, indicated the undersecretary.
The agency indicated that the bidding order will be by block size and that the auction for the 700 MHz band (20 MHz block) will be held next Monday, February 8, while the AWS bands (block 30 MHz) and 3.5 GHZ (150 MHz block) will take place on Thursday, February 11 and Tuesday, February 16, respectively.
The adoption of technology 5G, which allows to greatly increase the connection speed and the device interface, has been marked by debates in many countries due to questions about cybersecurity and data management.
